A must-see video clip of Mighty Joe Thunder’s WWF debut

Checking this blog’s stats, I’m amazed how many people end up here because they’re looking for information not about Hulk Hogan, or Rowdy Roddy Piper, or “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig — but instead about Mighty Joe Thunder.

Seriously, my prior post about Thunder is one of the most popular ones on this blog. In a comment to that post, a reader noted that someone did the world a favor and posted Thunder’s debut match on WWF Championship Wrestling from 1982. But since everyone doesn’t read through the comments, I couldn’t resist again mentioning this match clip.

When watching, keep your eyes open for:

  • Thunder’s pelt ring jacket
  • His finesse at applying a twisting wristlock
  • His awe-inspiring elbow drop

I’ll give Thunder credit, he was a huge man. But he was the single worst wrestler I can ever remember Captain Lou Albano managing. It’s no surprise his run didn’t last long. Bob Backlund lucked out never having to defend the WWF Title against this guy.
